I know i have not been blogging for awhile…..things are pretty hectic over here. Work is towering over me,…. as well as a new addition to the family (2 years already !) . Something has got to give and thus, it has to be photography and blogging. Just that the work related travelling does not seem to be stopping anything soon which means that there are still many opportunities to resume what I like to do !! 🙂
I have never visited Taiwan, must be weird as i have been to so many places but here. I guess Hong Kong always have a priority in my heart that if its for a short break….. This time round, the wife planned a mountain + Taipei City trip. Couldn’t refuse …. hehe
The thing is Taiwan seems to be a friendlier place in Hong Kong. I mean, am sure many of us must have the experiences whereby if you speak a little softer, the Hong Kongers might sound a little bit intimidating. But not here in Taiwan, they are patient, they listen and most of the time, they respond with a smile. Not only that, they seem to be a little more interested in you as a person as I found out when I visited the Bin Jiang Market.
What better way to experience the way of life of the locals than with a visit to the market ? The hustle and bustle makes it rather exciting for me and yes…way less tourists and there’s no shopping for branded stuff. Just plain old vegetables, fishes and meat.
“That’s your baby ? how old is she ? so cute !! Why….the corners of the mouth are a little red and dry. Don’t wipe too often with tissues. It hurts !!”
“You want a picture of me ? Sure ? Let me get prepared….”
“You want this tofu ? For your daughter ? No,no, take this one instead, higher in soy percentage and softer. Cost a little bit more but perfect for the baby.”
These are just some conversations that I had but you get the idea, they know i am looking around and may not buy anything but the overall feeling that I get…makes me feel very comfortable.
Don’t ask me how i manage to take these pictures with a full baby backpack, a baby seat holster with my daughter facing the front….. 🙂
Kidneys, Intestines…… looks like a murder scene….. 🙂
That’s Golden Goose Fats or oil….perfect for frying potatoes……
Gorgeous Seafood
And then, I came across this shop at 8am in the morning. See that assorted plate of sashimi ? That’s Taiwan dollar 400 which is about USD13 !!! Thats a steal, super fresh, super yummy. You have to stand and eat though, its a market after all, but all that for USD13….who cares !!!!!
I suppose that they must be good, because the time i was there, devouring the sashimi, lots of people were buying in bulk……It can’t be for home and when i spoke to a few, i realised they are Chefs in Japanese restaurants…… I cannot be in the wrong place if this is the shop that Chefs come to buy their stuff.
After that came this plate of Salmon Belly Sashimi, Lady Sashimi was only too happy to explain to me about their shop and gave me a discount for this. This is the first time I am having sashimi for breakfast…..Burp……
In a few minutes, a man came from inside the shop. Thats the Boss, Lady Sashimi explained……
“You want a beer ? ” as he sipped his…..
“Am going to fry that piece of Mekajiki belly later….you hang around abit more…..must try ok !!”
At 8am in the morning !!!???? I’ll pass……
🙂
